Deloitte Ignite 2010
Royal Opera House

Installation

For the third year of award winning arts festival, Deloitte Ignite, JaneJaney realised the fairy tale vision of international concert pianist and curator Joanna McGregor. Re-imagining the famous Crush Bar into a Forest of Dead Costumes, they sourced old props and costumes from the Opera House’s vast store in Wales to create a ghostly ball room through which guests could wander and explore. On the hour opera recitals were performed in a secret clearing at the end of the forest.

The Supper Rooms in the vaults of the Opera House became small mise-en-scenes with actors bringing to life the stories of different operas in front of the audience as they walked past. The Ballet Rooms were transformed into a Hansel and Gretel Museum complete with over zealous museum curators who quizzed their visitors, and the beautiful Conservatory became a light and airy palm filled tea room with gauze like costumes and parasols hanging from the rafters.
